Club Championship Results – 2015

Posted on

Well done to everybody at the club for a great 2015. The club continues to grow with members competing in all sorts of events far and wide. Gordon and Alastair have done a great job as Chairman and Secretary respectively and a big thanks to them and the coaches too who give up their own time to turn up and lead the Sessions week in week out.

On the running front members have been involved in all sorts of events from 5ks to Ultra Marathon’s, which have become more and more popular. On that front it’s worth mentioning Tony Brown who’s been particularly focused on Ultras and has had some great runs throughout the year, notably coming third in the Cataran Trail 55 mile ultra, well done Tony.

However, the club’s ethos is about encouraging people to run and a big thanks has to go to Richard O’Grady, he’s head coach for the Junior Section, he runs a highly regarded technique session each week, and he’s now started a beginners group. So once again thanks to Richard.

Being a member of WCH definitely helps people improve. You just need to talk to people at training on a Tuesday or Thursday night to hear how many members consistently get PBs. Or look at the Most Improved Runner League (MIRL) to see the amount of people getting PBs in the Club GP Races alone. If you do take a look, you will see that the title of:
– Most Improved Runner, 2015 is shared between Claire Watson and Scott Wilson…. well done to both of you.

Finally, the Club Champions for 2015. Well it won’t surprise anyone to know that the Ladies title goes to Linda Lucey, who’s consistently been first home in the Club’s GP races this year and has also been placed in her race category at numerous events. Bob Warnock, has taken the Men’s title again coming in first in all the GP events he’s taken place in. Again Bob has had a great year, probably most notable was being first in his category in the Lairig Ghru marathon (off-road mountain trail race).

The first three home in each category – Ladies and Men are as follows:

– Ladies: 1st Linda Lucey; 2nd Fiona Nichol; 3rd Sue Woods

– Men: 1st Bob Warnock; 2nd Alasdair MacNair; 3rd Ian McFarlane

Well that’s the results for this year. Time now for winter training to begin and to get ready for 2016!! Once again thanks to you all for your contribution in 2015.

New Training Approach

Posted on Updated on

Due to the large number of members attending each training session, sometimes over 40, there is a great risk of an incident happening. Often the gap between the slowest and quickest runners is huge and with a limited number of coaches personal safety is at risk. The coaches have agreed we must reduce this risk by dividing the training group into two.

So, as from this Thursday we will be asking members to move into one of two groups:

– Group A will be for those members who can maintain a pace of under 8 minute miles for a 10k run.

– Group B will be for members who run over 8 minute miles for a 10k.

Both groups will do the same training just at a pace best suited to their group’s ability and each group will have a lead coach. We will also be sending each group on different warm up & cool down routes to & from the various training sites to avoid overcrowding the pavements around the Town Hall.

The coaches thank you for your cooperation in ensuring this new training regime is successful as it is for your own safety and to ensure all members enjoy a good training session with the club.
